I was advised a year ago to use these by

I was advised a year ago to use these by my dental hygienist as part of my daily cleaning regime. Since then, the health of my teeth and gums have noticeably improved, and I recommend them highly. Tepe is one of several brands, but is the best in my view, and the view of many dentists including mine. A lot of people just brush their teeth, but the problem with this is, no matter how diligent you are, a brush simply cannot, physically, get into the vertical gaps between your teeth. A sticky film of bacteria will remain there, and this is what's referred to as plaque. If left in place plaque can quickly combine with the calcium that occurs naturally in your saliva to form tartar, a rock hard deposit that only your dentist can remove. If you can see darker staining around the edges or between your teeth, this is plaque. It causes decay and harbours bacteria that create bad breath. A trip to your hygienist is recommended. These are the reasons why the daily use of Tepe interdental brushes is recommended! My own personal regime involves brushing, then using tepe brushes between my teeth with large enough gaps, then flossing all my teeth, then another quick brush. It sounds like a lot of hassle, and it felt like it to begin with too, but now I'm used to it I don't notice. And I'd much rather spend ten minutes a day and have good breath and a full set of my own white teeth! The technique recommended is try smaller brushes first and never force one into a tight gap. You may well need more than one size for different teeth - I use both these and the slightly smaller red ones. Slide the brush in gently, angled slightly towards the centre of your mouth (your gums are higher at the back) Brush back and forth half a dozen times. Each pack includes a handle that extends the length of each brush, making it easier to use. Handling them carefully ensures they don't get bent up too quickly, and mine usually last a week or so each. You'll be surprised at the amount of muck and lodged seeds that these things can find even after you've brushed. One extra tip - unless you have a specific issue like gum disease and have been told to do so by your dentist, avoid the use of mouthwash. It loads your body with a lot of questionable chemicals and it contains chlorhexidine - a known staining agent! And as my dentist says, saliva itself is a natural mouth wash.
